ROD GEAR MUSIC
MULTI-INSTRUMENTALIST // COMPOSER // PRODUCER
Rod Gear has been composing, performing and recording music for over three decades. His love for jazz took him down the formal route at the Victorian College of the Arts (VCA) in Melbourne, Australia. After his time at the VCA Rod worked as a free lance musician for a number of years in the Melbourne jazz scene. He played with wonderful musicians such as David Hirschfelder, Joe Chindamo, Andy Vance and singers Al Martino, Christine Sullivan and Lisa Fields. He even did a season with the Moscow circus on ice. At the age of 24 Rod’s life began to veer off the rails, a profound spiritual experience arrested him and established harmony with God his Creator.
Rod travelled the world and upon his return to Australia in the early 90’s, he co-founded the gospel group the Sons of Korah. This involved 8 CDs and a trunk load of touring the planet for round 15 years. The band had (and still has) the goal of setting the 150 Biblical psalms to music.
Of recent years, Rod has been focusing on his own projects and has recorded 4 CDs of instrumental music. The material is all acoustic and could possibly be described as ‘reflective world music’. He has an affinity for Latin and Middle Eastern musical expressions as is evidenced in his recordings.
Rod lives in Geelong, Australia and lives with his wife Angela and their three adorable children.
