Vanessa Bye, MAPS
I am a Registered Psychologist, a member of the Australian Psychological Society (APS), registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA), and an Associate Member of the EMDR Association of Australia (EMDRAA). I have a background in Christian Counselling having trained at Perth Bible College in the 1990’s. I also have previous experience working as a YouthCARE Chaplain, and later School Psychologist, within the Department of Education. I moved to private practice in 2022 and founded Ocean Waves Psychology in 2023.
Past experiences shape how you feel about yourself, impact your style of relating and what you do to cope (e.g. people pleasing, worrying, perfectionism).
I work with individual women who struggle with anxiety, depression, stress, issues of low self-esteem/worth, difficult childhood experiences, current or past trauma, loss & grief, relationship issues, work issues & burnout, adjustment to life changes (e.g. birth of a child, loss of a parent, parenting, divorce, retiring.)
Together we can work to break unhelpful patterns and create a more meaningful, purposeful life with enriching relationships.
We will work towards your goals for therapy. My hope is to help you to learn strategies to feel calmer, empowered, have a core sense of self and a greater feeling of inner peace and to gain the skills to underpin the changes you make.
All therapy is trauma informed, neuro-affirming and evidence-based, therapy may include:
• Interpersonal Therapy
• Metacognitive Therapy
• Narrative Therapy
• Schema Therapy
• Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT)
• Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT)
• Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR)
• Somatic Based Therapy (informed by polyvagal theory)
I enjoy working with women of all ages, collaborating with them to process their challenges & traumas, & helping to build skills to be able to flourish. I provide a safe and supportive space for you to express, reflect, & question. As the founder and sole practitioner of Ocean Waves Psychology, when you reach out you will speak directly to me, I look forward to journeying with you.
